The Empathy Set: A Comprehensive Toolkit for Empathy, Emotional Literacy and Relational Harmony
The Empathy Set is a suite of tools designed to enhance emotional literacy, empathy, and relational harmony. Rooted in the principles of Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg, these tools serve as practical resources for individuals seeking to deepen their understanding of themselves and others.
Empathy is demonstrating an understanding of another's feelings and needs!
— Marshall Rosenberg
The Empathy Set (Original Set): This foundational component consists of 56 feelings cards and 56 needs cards. Each card is carefully chosen to help users identify and articulate their feelings and needs, facilitating deeper emotional connections and empathetic engagement. The Empathy Set is ideal for everyone, for in truth, we all have challenges communicating positively, without judgment and put downs. So, in a nutshell, the cards are a tool that get you in touch with vital information that you need so that you can communicate positively what you are feeling and needing, without judgment, by using “I” Statements, and then problem solve to find a solution that meets everyone’s needs.
New Edition Cards with Definitions: Building upon the original set, the new edition includes definitions on each card, providing users with clearer understanding and articulation of their emotional states and needs. Each definition is accompanied by four synonyms, significantly expanding the range of feelings and needs prompts accessible to users. This addition facilitates a more nuanced fine-tuning process, enabling individuals to explore a broader spectrum of emotions and needs until they find the terms that truly resonate with their personal experience.
The Dictionary of 108 Feelings and Needs: This dictionary offers insightful definitions and synonyms for a comprehensive list of feelings and needs, significantly expanding the user's emotional vocabulary. Beyond serving as a lexicon, it includes guidance on crafting 'I' statements and other communicative tools, empowering users to express themselves more effectively and authentically. It is an essential resource for anyone looking to explore and express the complex tapestry of human emotions and requirements, supporting improved communication and self-awareness.
Mobile Application: The Empathy Set extends its reach through a mobile application available for both Android and iPhone users offering an interactive platform that seamlessly integrates emotional literacy into daily life. The app includes dynamic tools for self-empathy, empathy towards others, and empathic problem-solving conversations. It is designed to encourage introspection, enhance understanding of others, and support constructive dialogues through a user-friendly interface. With definitions at the users' fingertips and an array of interactive elements, the app makes learning and applying the principles of Nonviolent Communication both engaging and accessible.
Upon downloading the app, you are granted 168 complimentary points, which allow you to initiate up to three new situations. The app itself is free and functions on a points-based system, providing access to three different feature levels: Starter, Enhancer, and Maximizer. Points can be accrued through various means—purchases, referrals, or by achieving designated milestones. It is possible to use the app for free forever!
Talking Sticks (Zulu Beaded and Giraffe NVC): Complementing the empathy cards, the Talking Sticks are modern interpretations of an ancient tool for ensuring balanced communication. The Zulu Beaded and Giraffe NVC Talking Sticks serve as physical symbols that designate the speaker, promoting structured and respectful dialogue where every participant is heard.
